If you handed me a camera and said, “Go wild in one venue for the rest of your life,” I’d politely ask if Historic London Town & Gardens was available. Because photographing weddings here? A literal dream.
Between the gardens, the waterfront, the historic buildings, and the pockets of magical light that seem to follow you around like a rom-com montage—it’s basically an outdoor photographer’s playground.

1. The Gardens Are Giving Main Character Energy
Let’s start with the gardens, because WOW.
Every season brings its own aesthetic:
- Spring = fluffy florals + pastel perfection
- Summer = lush green walls everywhere (instant ethereal backdrop)
- Fall = warm, cozy color palette straight out of an Anthropologie catalog.chef’s kiss
- Winter = silhouetted trees with ice blue waterfront in the background
You can point your camera in any direction and land a shot that looks like it belongs in a high-end wedding magazine.
Photographer Tip:
If you want that soft glow behind the couple, the lower garden is your best friend in the middle of the day light.

2. The Historic Buildings Add That Editorial Edge
The walkways, the wood details—every historic building on the grounds gives you a delicious mix of rustic charm and editorial drama.
This is where I sometimes say, “Okay trust me, it feels weird now but it will look AMAZING in the photos.”
Funny Tip:
Don’t lean on the buildings. They aren’t kidding when they call it historic. You will get dirty!

3. The Waterfront Is the Queen of Backdrops
The South River view behind the ceremony site?
ICONIC.
There’s something about the wide-open water, the sky stretching forever, and the amazing breeze. You just can’t beat it. Occasionally a boat or two will go by and make it even more picturesque.
Photographer Tip:
If you have a long veil, London Town’s waterfront will turn it into an Olympic-level wind athlete.

4. Portrait Locations for DAYS
You want variety? London Town laughed and said, “Sure babe.” Sometimes you can do it all if you budget time for it and sometimes you have to tell me your favorite spots so we just get those.
Here are my go-to stops:
- The lower garden with the massive trees, back light, water feature & greenery for days
- The rustic Gazebo surrounded by flowers
- Under the foliage of the trees in the fall
- The dock for the last chance at sun portraits you will absolutely frame in your home
Funny Tip:
Wear comfortable shoes or you’ll be doing the “wedding day hobble” by hour three. You can also bring separate shoes to walk around and do photos in if your feet aren’t showing.

5. Vendor-Friendly Means Everything Runs Smoothly
The staff at Historic London Town genuinely cares about the couple’s experience AND the vendor team. They keep everything flowing, help with logistics, and know all the secrets—like where the best light hits first and which paths stay least muddy after rain.
As someone who’s shot at many venues where it feels like we’re all winging it together… Londontown feels like coming home every time I am there.

6. A Few Photographer-Approved Tips for Couples
Tip 1: Bring bug spray in summer.
The gardens are gorgeous, but the bugs sometimes RSVP without being invited. If you know you are a treat for bugs prepare in the hotter months.
Tip 2: Hydrate.
London Town is walkable but deceptively large. Your photographer may lead you on a “quick stroll” that becomes a 25-minute scenic adventure if it is in the time budget.

Tip 3: If your dress has a train, your partner must now be the “train holder”
I’ve seen trains collect leaves, and petals, bugs, and dirt in under two minutes. If you really have issues about keeping your dress pristine there should be a bridesmaid in charge of it or your partner should hold it.
Tip 4: Lean in & Enjoy the outdoors
There is an indoor space for your reception if you choose it, but realistically you are getting married in a GARDEN. Have a rain backup plan, be ok with the little bit of dirt that gets on your dress & shoes and have extra touches for your guests that keep them comfortable if it is hot/cold. No matter what it is a GORGEOUS place and your guests will love every moment with you.

Final Thoughts: London Town Is a Wedding Photography Wonderland
If you want a wedding gallery filled with:
- Dreamy garden portraits
- Waterfront dock moments
- Historic architecture
- Tented high energy receptions
- And a whole lot of candid laughter
Historic London Town & Gardens is THAT venue and I am THAT photographer.
Every time I shoot here, my creative soul does a tiny shimmy.
Every couple looks incredible.
Every gallery feels timeless and natural and full of joy.
10/10—would happily photograph here forever.
